A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away...Episode 61

MY 14 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 61 (manga chaps 95, 96 and 97):

So sad the Benizakura’s Arc is over. I wish the anime team had gotten creative and extended it for a few episodes more. Thank goodness for the animated movie and the live action movie. 

1) Just because Zura is so damn pretty I can’t even stand it sometimes. And of course I love his short hair. Freaking Nizou could be a barber in his next life.

2) Such a cool pose. I love this so much.

3) Gin-chan is so sexy when he’s serious.

4) Bullets are nothing to The Queen.

5) Loved the teamwork to stop the monster and rescue Gintoki.

6) I teared up when Tetsuko started crying for her brother. Kudos to her seiyuu, Nemoto Keiko, who really put in a heart-wrenching performance.

7) I died when I saw these cute babies for the first time.

8) Our first look at Shouyou in the anime and it might have been my first glimpse of Shouyou, period, since I watched the Benizakura arc before reading the corresponding chapters. I remember thinking he looks like he’s going to be a bishonen when we finally get to see his entire face.

9) This just breaks my heart a little bit. 

10) I wasn’t surprised at Saigou being there, but that he would be so prominently featured. It was sweet that Zura included Kagura, his leader, but Pachi-kun was a bit of a head-scratcher. I honestly didn’t think he cared about Shinpachi that much...I guess he could’ve been a representative of the Yorozuya, but at the same time, I would’ve expected Zura to think of Sadaharu instead.

11) Elizabeth being completely unhelpful but still adorabe.

12) I love them.

13) One of the best escapes ever.

14) I love this just because it’s the last time we see his windblown short hair.

SHIPS TALLY:

Takasugi x Zura: ex-boyfriends meeting up again is always a little exciting to see.

Gintoki x Zura: always totally shippable, I sometimes can’t resist either.

Gintoki x Takasugi x Zura: Gintoki and Zura obviously still cared a lot about Takasugi. 

Zura x Ikumatsu & Zura x Saigou: please refer to moment #10. 

Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just completely unbelievably amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s immense generosity that I am able enjoy Gintama on an extra another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.

i just watched episode 3 of odd taxi and when i got to the end it suddenly hit me that holy shit i think shiho is ichimura from the idol group that we got introduced to last episode... so i rewatched episode 2 to confirm, and wow, rewatching ep 2 actually made the ending of episode 3 make so much more sense??? i remember watching episode 2 and seeing that scene when yamamoto gets a call and something something mumbly mumbly about a dash cam and a taxi driver which I figured was odokawa, but now it makes sense why yamamoto shows up at the end of episode 3 trailing kakihana and shiho. this is definitely a trap to get info from kakihana or use him for leverage against odokawa.

i am so impressed with this show so far??? it’s atmospheric as fuck with great social media commentary but also honestly a kick-ass mystery with really fucking good foreshadowing that when you rewatch episodes you’re like OH? good shit.

after reading the theory about none of these characters actually being animals, I went back to episode 1 to see goriki and shirakawa’s reactions to odokawa calling them a gorilla and an alpaca respectively. in goriki’s case, shirakawa laughed quietly and goriki sighed and said ‘you’re not wrong.’ when odokawa called shirakawa the only alpaca around here, she burst into full laughter but otherwise didn’t respond. hmmmmm.

Not to still be on my total drama bullshit, but it hit me last night that Heather and Alejandro would 110% be drift compatible. They would be one-upping each other all through training and then when tryouts occur for pilot matching they’d realize that they’re very evenly matched and very much in sync and disgust would bloom bc no fucking way are they EVER going to be co-pilots, no thank you. They’re both condescending and arrogant and disrespectful of everyone they come into contact with except for each other, bc despite their respective derision for the other there’s a real respect there, and that makes them compatible when they’re literally incompatible with Everyone Else. Plus they finish each other’s sentences and know each other’s manipulative minds like no one else like. Bro.

in retrospect wenwu yelling at shangchi that he should have helped his mother fight rather than watch from the window despite shangchi being like eight at the time was 100% wenwu projecting onto his son and wishing he had been there to help fight but. i just imagine wenwu being 100% serious that an 8yo should have helped fend off trained fighters and lmaooo

BANANA FISH, Zero The Enforcer Win Fans' Votes for Tokyo Anime Award Festival

Tokyo Anime Award Festival has announced the top 100 anime titles (90 TV series and ten feature films) chosen by fans' online votes from a total of 524 titles aired/released in Japan between October 15, 2017, and October 13, 2018. A total number of votes cast between November 17 and December 24 was 397,145, which was the highest record in the award's 16-year history.

  From this 100 titles, the Grand Prix winners of "Anime of The Year" will be chosen by industry experts (producers, creators, broadcasters, critics, staff members of animation shops, etc.), while the winner of "Anime Fan Award" will be decided by another online votes by fans, which is scheduled to begin on January 14, 2019. Check out Japanese fans' choices below.

“Tales Of” References in Gintama Game Promotions

There’s been a small buzz in the JP Tales fandom in light of Gintama animating Chapter 430 of the manga (The Difference Between Godly Games and Shitty Games is Paper Thin), mostly due to the timing of the episode (a few days after Tales’s 22th Anniversary) on top of all the hype and speculation surrounding the Tales stream this December 16.

In light of that, @tales_antenna on Twitter did some research on where else Gintama may have thrown in a Tales reference, and dug up a few gems. Credit goes to them for finding all of these!

※ Note: Chapter 430 doesn't only parody Tales, but also a few other games and takes a dig at Bandai Namco. Who lets them get away with it, being that they own Sunrise (the studio that animates Gintama) and produce the games based off the series as well.

Y'know, I finally started watching Gintama because...

so where do the feels start happening? i’ve tried twice now to get into it and our tastes seem to align enough that i’m pretty sure i’ll enjoy it once that happens, buuuut i’m like 10 episodes in and not there yet

OOOH ahahahah yeah. Gintama has a pretty...steep initial start. And if you’re not enjoying the crack comedy much at all, the series might not be for you? (or you might want to just skip ahead and watch the more epic arcs? But even most of those are pretty heavy on the crack...)

That being said, if you want some exact numbers (no spoilers for what happens, but when it happens) -- the first episode that really has feels is 13 -- and that’s just a brief taste (the episode goes too quickly, it’s 3 manga chapters in one rather than the usual 2:1 ratio.) Then Episodes 40-42 are the Umibozu arc, which ramps it up a bit. And then episodes 58-61 is the Benizakura arc, which is the first time the series really hits a full-on fight shounen stride and damn but it can keep up the pace (this is the arc they re-animated for the first theatrical release, and it seems like the upcoming live action movie is going to be an adaption as well. There’s a reason for that.)

So uhhh, yeah. It’s a bit of a commitment? And I would say worth it...but YMMV, and with Gintama there is a LOT of room for variance!

(The other thing about Gintama which isn’t apparent in the first run of eps is that it is unafraid to swing to wild extremes. This is not a crack series that once in a while has a lightly dramatic note. A few of the stories are among the darker/more tragic stuff I’ve seen in shounen -- not in the killing of main characters sense, but the nature of the stories. Like, the first Yoshiwara arc --Yoshiwara was Tokyo’s historical red-light district, and the Gintama take is one of the more brutal visions of prostitution, without being graphic or sexed up; it’s about exploitation and fighting back and it’s genuinely one of the best handlings of that theme I’ve seen from a male writer. And yet even that arc is full of cheap gags and inappropriate humor and...I don’t know, this is why I have a hard time reccing Gintama, because on the one hand I want to share it with everybody and then on the other, I don’t even know why it works for me, much less anyone else!)

84. eye colour: ok so this is the situation. i’ve always been told i have brown eyes. when i was older, a makeup artist said i can use purple makeup to bring out the green in my eyes. and i was like um... green? so i looked at my eyes up close and noticed that my eyes are in fact brown and green. idk if they’ve always been that way or changed as i got older? since i can’t see my eyes all the time idk what they look like in different environments but i’ve been told that they tend to fluctuate between brown, green, and a mix of the 2. what i’ve noticed is that from far away or in darker settings they look brown. close up or in lighter settings they look more green. idk if that means they’re hazel??? honestly if you know please tell me lol

A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away...Episode 42

MY 9 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 42 (manga chaps 61, 62 and 63):

1) Kagura’s voice was so delicate and tiny; really hurt my heart to listen to her.

2) LOVED this moment. The anime team made it even more poignant by staying on their reaching hands longer.

3) These two children. Like competing dads or son-in-law vs father-in-law. I honestly think both scenarios can apply. 

4) In the manga, Hijikata was kicking a male reporter. I appreciate that he is an equal opportunity abuser in the anime when it comes to journalists.

5)  Again, these two children. They’re like peas in a pod when it comes to inappropriate behavior for grown men.

6) Bet the anime team wish they could have gone back and colored Kamui’s hair. Of course it’s totally understandable that they would think he’d look like a tiny version of Umibouzu. 

7) Every time, I start crying here.

8) Bless Pachi-kun. He is such a sweetheart.

9) Kagura’s letter to her Papi just made me cry some more.

SHIPS TALLY:

Gintoki x Kagura: I think I said this in my chapter post, but I do think that early on, Sorachi-sama probably intended for Kagura to eventually become a love interest for Gintoki, when she’s older of course, but he just changed his mind. Putting aside my personal ships for the two of them, I wouldn’t have protested at all if 10 years later, this ship did become a reality. 

Gintoki x Shinpachi: it’s moments like these that remind me why I shipped them way back in the early, early days of my Gintama life.
